Description
The Time Police want to arrest him.
A ruthless assassin wants him dead.
Bart Jones just wants to go home.
For Bart Jones, birthday number thirteen starts out bad and goes downhill fast. No presents, not even a card from his dad, and when he stops by Grandpa Jacob's grave before school, some nut-job comes after him with a sword! He is saved by two kids, Degg and Kaylan. They claim to come from the future, where Bart is wanted, dead or alive, for illegally altering the course of history, and a string of other crimes he hasn't committed . . . yet.
Bart thinks they're crazy, until the Temporal Guardians come to arrest him. He escapes with his new friends in their stolen time-ship, but instead of the future, they land in 1863, at the Battle of Gettysburg.
Degg manages to jump them ahead a few months, but their location hasn't changed.
With the Temporal Guardians hot on their trail, Bart sneaks into town to acquire the silver needed to repair the ship. He ends up at Gettysburg cemetery, where he runs headlong into Abraham Lincoln, preparing himself for his most famous speech.
Bart convinces Lincoln he really does come from the future, but when the president asks about the outcome of the Civil War, Bart realizes he must choose between giving up any chance of returning home, or committing the very crime he's accused of.
