Jimmy is 11 years old and in 6th grade. He enjoys friends, day dreaming, basketball, football and baseball. He likes school, but loves the summertime better. This is the story about the summer playground program of Allentown Pennsylvania and Jimmy and the many kids from the Hamilton Park community who enjoy its many activities. The Park has swings, a slide, monkey bars, a volleyball court, a basketball court and a baseball field. The summer program directors are Greg and Pam, seniors in the local high school. They plan on going to Teacher's College after they graduate high school. Greg and Pam are responsible for the games, arts and crafts, and preparations for the annual Romper Day that take place at the Fairground Stands at the end of August.In August the instructors begin training the 20 plus boys and girls for the dancing competition, the Maypole Dance and the Stars and Stripes Flag Drill performed on Romper Day. All those who participate get a free hot dog and free rides all day at the Allentown Fair.Children have a full time occupation, and it is called play. Thanks to the Summer Park Program the City provides for its young people, tens of thousand will carry happy memories from their youth.
